Background Guide Coming In Committee.

Committee Summary

Committee Summary: The Ad Hoc General Assembly of the President is an advanced committee intended for those with experience in collegiate General Assembly Model United Nations and with the skills to adapt with all challenges given to them over the course of the weekend. Though there is a Director in this committee, delegates should not expect crisis notes, JPDs, or anything of that sort. Unlike the Ad Hoc of the Secretary General, the GADHOC does not require an application. If you would not like a spot in the committee, please note so on your registration form. Hints on the topic will come in the weeks and days preceding LAMUN XXI.

Meet The Staff

Asher Rao

Chair

Hello Delegates,

Welcome to LAMUN XXI! My name is Asher Rao and I am thrilled to serve as your chair for LAMUN’s first-ever General Assembly Ad Hoc. I am a second-year student majoring in World Arts and Cultures and Political Science, and this conference marks my sixth year of Model United Nations. This past year, I served as the Under-Secretary-General of Novice committees at BruinMUN XXXIII, UCLA’s high school conference, and I am beyond excited to return back to the dais to chair this pretty groovy topic.

Like many of you, my Model UN career began during my freshman year of high school. While I could barely grasp the difference between a substantive and procedural vote – let alone amendments! – MUN quickly became one of the most fulfilling extracurricular activities I participated in. Coming to UCLA, I sought a similar community that would create authentic friendships, unforgettable memories, and the appropriate amount of global politics geekiness and absolutely random humor, making Model UN at UCLA the perfect fit. Having staffed both BruinMUN and LAMUN, I am so excited to take this next step as a chair and I hope this committee will challenge you to experiment, ideologically, creatively, and collaboratively.

A little on me, I am originally from San Francisco and solemnly swear that Northern California just does everything better, maybe except for the weather. I am a member of UCLA’s fusion South Asian dance team Root[d, a campus tour guide (watch out for my mad backwards walking skills), and am a proud member of UCLA’s beekeeping club (#aparaistforlife).

With that, I am incredibly excited to welcome you all to the principal General Assembly Ad Hoc at LAMUN! I am confident that each and everyone of you will express yourselves authentically and not let any authority silence your voices. If you have any questions or concerns, please don’t hesitate to reach out to me or a member of the Secretariat. Get ready to rumble!

Sincerely,

Asher Rao

Anton Stover

Director

Dear Honorable Delegates,

My name is Anton Stover and it is my pleasure to be your director/mastermind/schemer/working title in the inaugural Ad Hoc General Assembly of the President. As the President of MUN @ UCLA that this committee is named after, it is my pleasure to help run this committee and close out my tenure as President and in Model UN as a whole.

I am a current senior at UCLA, majoring in History and minoring in American Indian Studies, Global Studies, and Public Affairs. At Model UN at UCLA, I am the President for the 2025-2026 academic year, serving on the Secretariat, as well as a head delegate for our Travel Team. Before that, I was the Director of External Relations, a USG for our high school conference, a CD of the Manhattan Project at LAMUN XIX, a backroom staffer in Nintendo BoD at LAMUN XVIII, an active travel team member, and, most importantly, a two-time winner of UCLA’s March Madness pool. Outside of Model UN (yes, such a thing exists), my life is consumed by my thesis about nineteenth century federal Indian law, the UCLA undergraduate law journal, writing satire pieces for the Bruin Review, and working with the history department. In my free time (again, such a thing exists), I love the LinkedIn games, making random spreadsheets, doomscrolling lastfm, and trying not to think about law school apps.

This will be my final conference in Model United Nations. If I did the math correctly, it will be conference #55 that I have staffed or competed in in my seven years doing this activity. I’m more than elated to end my committee at the best conference ever, and with a topic I hold dear to my heart. I hope that you approach this committee with an open mind, willing to do whatever diabolical things I throw at you, and, most of all, I hope you have fun. This committee is a reflection of my seven years of doing this silly activity, and I hope you all will at least humor me for three days, whether it is your first ever GADHOC or you’re joining me in your last ever committee. Other than that, I can’t say much more about the topic, but trust, it will be fire. See you in April!!!!!

Best Regards,

Anton Stover
